WHICH STUD
SHOULD YOU BUY?
The Gold
Digger Traction Master, Mega-Bite and the Signature Series studs are for
standard two ply tracks. The Grand Master is designed specifcally to install in single ply tracks. Currently Woody's offers only one style Grand Master with a 2" flat head and a blunt taper made with hardenable steel. There are some differences between the gold Digger, mega-Bite and the Signature Series. The gold Digger has the patented 1" diameter cupped head which traps rubber in the cup area when installed. The Mega-Bite and the Signature Series have a standard 15/16" flat head. The Gold Digger and Mega-Bite are made from hardenable steel and the Signature Series is made of a hardenable grade of stainless steel. The wear factors of the stud materials are very similar. All theree studs use the same 60 degree carbide pin.
Now,
what each stud design is intended for. If you take a look at the profile of
each stud you will notice a big difference in the taper or head design from the
pin down to where the threads start. On the Gold Digger this taper is very
aggressive, the Mega-Bite has four directional flat sides and the taper on the
Signature Series it is very blunt. The Mega-Bite works best on hard
pack, loose snow or slush. The Gold Digger has the best penetration on hard
pack and ice. The Signature Series stud is a great stud for a cruising rider.
If you are an assertive rider the Mega-Bite or Gold Digger is recommended
because it is a more aggressive stud.
Answer
these questions and you will know which stud to buy. Are you a trail cruiser or
an aggressive rider? Trail Cruiser's might try the Signature Series. Do your
trails get icy corners? Try the Gold Digger or the Mega Bite. Are there lots of
hills? Either the Gold Digger or Mega Bite works. Are you on hard pack or
frozen lakes? The Gold Digger or the Mega Bite would be a good choice. On loose
snow or, slush, the Mega Bite is awesome?
If your
terrain changes every time you ride or you can't decide, all four studs will
last and be durable as long as the correct quantities and patterns are used,
they are correctly installed with Woody's support plates, and they are
maintained correctly.
